RSEC COMMODITY JOURNEYPalm mill process & outputs
FFB enters the mill first. CPO, biomass streams and POME then emerge from different parts of the mill process; palm kernel continues separately into the PKO journey.

PHASE 06 · ENVIRONMENT

POME management.
Controlled treatment is part of mill discipline.

Palm Oil Mill Effluent is a liquid process stream that requires deliberate environmental management. It should move through controlled treatment systems rather than being treated as an incidental waste flow.

Depending on the mill and regulatory framework, treatment can include settling, anaerobic and aerobic stages, monitored ponds, controlled discharge parameters and, where implemented, methane or biogas capture.

TREATMENTEffluent passes through controlled treatment stages designed for the mill’s operating load.
MONITORINGPond condition, flow and discharge parameters are monitored under applicable environmental requirements.
RECOVERYSome mills may use biogas capture or other recovery systems where technically and commercially viable.
